Learn the fundamentals of private equity with the BVCA’s flagship Foundation course
For over 30 years, Foundation, BVCA’s flagship training course has been the essential course for junior investment professionals. Led by renowned industry practitioners, it provides the fundamentals of private equity, using real life case studies to explore due diligence, deal structuring, transactions structuring (early stage, growth capital, MBOs), management assessment, exits, managing a portfolio and more.
Course Director, Jon Andrew, described Foundation as "our signature programme for those looking to develop their investing skills. It is unique in many ways but in particular because the wisdom and learnings from experienced practitioners across the private capital sector is passed down to those beginning their careers with member firms. We cover the fundamentals of deal structuring across the deal spectrum plus key aspects of portfolio management, impact investing, due diligence and exit planning."
Highlighting Foundation’s most prominent takeaway, Jon noted that all attendees “build lasting relationships with their cohort that stay with them throughout their whole careers. In fact, those now running member firms as practice leaders years later, still cite this course as a major milestone in their career development.”
Programme participants have spoken about the benefits it provided them. Sandra Gonzalez from Innovate UK UKRI said, "My ability to persuade my audience as well as identifying the different tyles of management teams within our loan applications have been an incredibly valuable skill that I've learnt from the Foundation."
Isaac Paine from Macfarlanes LLP comments from the perspective of a corporate lawyer specialising in private equity, “I attended the BVCA’s ‘Foundation’ course to get a different perspective on the industry. The course was insightful, engaging and enabled me to make some great contacts. It also led to some fantastic opportunities, including to teach on the course and, subsequently, the BVCA’s ‘Legal Agreements in Private Equity’ course. I thoroughly recommend it for anyone wishing to gain further insight into the industry.”
Hosted at De Vere Latimer in Buckinghamshire, delegates stay at ‘one of Britain’s most secret homes’ for 4.5 days. With the manor house existing as early as 1194 AD, the estate offers a wealth of history, being passed down through families of English nobility before becoming a top-secret centre for military intelligence during World War II.
The course provides an opportunity to network and build relationships with peers at dinner and drinks receptions throughout the week. In addition, guests have access to the estate’s 30 acres of grounds with sweeping views of the Chess Valley, as well as a fully equipped gym and indoor swimming pool, and sauna.
