BVCA Research focuses on many aspects of private capital in the UK: including deal activity, fund and business performance, diversity and inclusion, and how businesses backed by our members are combatting the climate crisis. Our aim is to provide robust insight to enable a better understanding of the contribution of private capital to the UK.
The majority of our work is based on commercial information shared directly by our members. We also work closely with the academic and research community in the UK, EU and US, as well as commissioning work from third parties.

The BVCA Research team compiles and publishes benchmark investment activity data each year for the UK private capital industry from our Investment Activity Survey which captures details of the investments, divestments, and fundraising.
The BVCA, in association with PwC, publishes the Performance Measurement Survey Report each year which demonstrates private equity and venture capital's performance over different time periods and compares it to listed equities
The BVCA, in association with EY, publishes an annual report on the performance of portfolio companies, a group of large, private equity owned UK businesses that met defined criteria at the time of acquisition.
This research aims to highlight the lack of diversity in private capital and provide recommendations to make the industry more accessible to a wider range of recruits from different backgrounds.
